Plugins
Not every room needs everything bitwerk can do. A club does not want song requests, a mastering room has no use for the AI features, and a listening bar may want no accounts at all. These features are plugins: an admin switches each one on or off, and the interfaces show only what is on.
Switching a plugin
Section titled “Switching a plugin”In the web UI, open Settings › Plugins (admins only). Each plugin has its name, one sentence on what it adds and a switch. A switch applies at once, without a restart, and every open web UI and touch display follows it.
- Off hides, it does not delete. A plugin that is off starts nothing, and its views and settings are hidden. What it stored stays, so switching it on again finds everything as it was. That is why switching off asks for no confirmation.
- Plugins that need others. Song requests need user accounts, because guests sign in with a listener account. Switching accounts off also switches song requests off, and the web UI says so. A plugin whose needed plugin is off cannot be switched on; the web UI names what to switch on first.
- After an update a plugin keeps what its old setting said (a UPnP renderer that was on stays on, AI that was on stays on), otherwise it starts with its default.
The plugins
Section titled “The plugins”| Plugin | What it adds | Default | When it is off |
|---|---|---|---|
Accounts (access) | People sign in with their own email and password or a passkey, as an admin or a listener (play only) | on | Only the admin password signs in; the accounts’ sessions end, and the accounts stay for later |
AI (ai) | AI texts about songs and artists, “Ask your library”, credits from a booklet photo (AI and artists) | off | Nothing is sent to a model; “Explain this” from the docs keeps working |
Online lookups (lookup) | Missing covers, artist and album info with photos, “About this song”, lyrics from LRCLIB, new releases | on | bitwerk asks none of these services; the files’ own tags, covers and lyrics stay |
MCP server (mcp) | Your own AI assistant may browse the library and control rooms (it still needs an admin’s yes in Settings › AI) | on | The assistant cannot reach bitwerk |
Song requests (requests) | Guests ask for songs in a room, an admin or the room’s display accepts them | on | No room takes requests; a room set to “Ask for songs” lets guests neither play nor ask |
Room correction (room_correction) | Parametric EQ profiles per room (REW, Equalizer APO, by hand) | on | Every room plays without a profile, bit-perfect; the profiles stay |
Triggers (triggers) | Webhooks and MQTT messages on playback and device events | on | Nothing is delivered; the triggers stay |
UPnP renderer (upnp) | Every room shows up as a UPnP renderer in other apps | off | No room is visible as a renderer |
The admin password, rooms, the library, playlists, Spotify, radio and the touch displays are part of bitwerk itself and cannot be switched off.
